About

Nina Kain McCondichie.

Nina is a Bristol based artist. She works primarily in oils and mixed media and has exhibited in the Outer Hebrides. She has a background in landscape painting. Recent paintings continue this love of seascape and landscape, but also include a new and growing collection of figurative and portrait work. Painting is as much a process of engaging with place and with artist’s materials, sometimes salvaged or found, as it is an attempt to recreate a subject. A relationship with and feeling for the wild Hebridean landscape provides enduring inspiration. Each landscape work is a response to place, a distillation of the mood and sensation of a place into the tactile artefact of the work itself. Nina is interested in colour and abstraction and in exploring the limits of the medium of painting, for instance what happens during the transition from landscape to 2D surface. The mood and palette of the paintings moves between the dark and turbulent and the minimalist, increasingly moving to pare back colour in canvases gradually engulfed by white.
